Michael Mitnick is a playwright, screenwriter, and songwriter.

Theatre works include Scotland, PA (New York Times Critics’ Pick, The Roundabout Theatre Company), Fly By Night (Drama Desk-nominated Best Musical, Playwrights Horizons), Mysterious Circumstances (The Geffen Playhouse), Sex Lives of Our Parents (Second Stage), The Siegel (South Coast Repertory), and Spacebar: A Broadway Play by Kyle Sugarman (The Wild Project). Mitnick co-wrote the lyrics to the Broadway musical King Kong and contributed as a joke writer for President Barack Obama’s 2014 White House Correspondents' Speech.

Film credits include The Current War (directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon) and The Giver (directed by Phillip Noyce), as well as two short films directed by Luca Guadagnino, O Night Divine and The Staggering Girl (Cannes Film Festival selection). His television work includes the HBO series Vinyl, produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger.

His music and lyrics have been sung at Lincoln Center, The Guggenheim, Joe’s Pub, 54 Below, and on HBO.

Michael is an alumnus of the Ars Nova and Page 73 Writers Groups. BA from Harvard University and MFA in Playwriting from The Yale School of Drama. He is from Pittsburgh and lives in New York City.
